I was born into a family with obesity issues and I've been dieting, aka starving myself, in some form or another since I was 14. When I was in medical school, '73-'78, I saw the carbohydrate was bad for you idea thrown out and the animal fat was bad for you idea brought in, so I shifted to a vegetarian and eventually vegan diet. That made my weight easier to control but it was still a struggle. Things looked pretty good until I was in my 50's when signs of inflammation started up. First blepharitis then rosacea, followed 2 years later with testicular cancer and in another 2 years my first blood lipid tests showed I was not in good shape. After 35 years of vegetarian-vegan living this surprised both my doctor and myself. That's when I started seriously questioning my beliefs about what was a healthy diet and after exploration, and eating a lot of humble pie, I decided to completely reverse my stance. I went back to eating fish, chicken, eggs and meat. Not all at once. I had to 'wean' myself onto those over a year or two. And it took me a while to learn that I needed to really limit my carbs like you'll learn in this programme. For me it was like waking up from a dream. My mind became clear as a bell and my body fat started to fall off easily, without hunger for the first time in my life. It's been 7 years now and my only regret is that I didn't learn this sooner. So teaching people about ketogenic living has become a major passion of mine. It's one of the simplest and easiest things we can do to optimize our health and wellbeing.
